After 14 days in Borneo, we visited d'Northstar bistro in Sandakan. Besides some local dishes they pffered western food just like a good tenderloin and an excellent pizza (hand made-thin crust). Furthermore they offered a thorough wine list with a variety of good wines onto it.Our kids & ourselves loved it! The service was great, the meals was great: after enjoying the neighborhood dishes for some time, it definitely is nice to truly have a western plate before you switch to local again. After dinner, the staff started a (new) movie on a large screen outside, so we stayed for two wines while our kids enjoyed the movie. An big plus!

If you're lazy to venture out far, try ordering the oxtail assam pedas which really is a must. The special fried rice also taste deliciously. It includes a big LED screen with movies nightly. Hotel guests eligible for 10% discount (except liquor).

A taxi ride from Sandakan Town Centre at the expense of about £10 where in fact the atmosphere is great, the meals equally so and is partially outdoors. Features a great bar adjoining the restaurant and is thoroughly recommended.
