Tick tock, have you eaten your breakfast?
On the last Friday of the week, before the arrival of the festive season, the starving YummyAdvisor team visited a merchant in Kota Damansara in order to rid our early morning hunger. Upon arriving, you might not be able to identify where the restaurant is, but worry not. Behind the trees covering up the restaurant is the entrance of our merchant this morning! Now, let’s move on to what was served for our breakfast!
Ipoh Roti Goyang (RM8)
The first breakfast meal that was served was the Ipoh Roti Goyang which consisted of two slices of burnt bread with half-boiled eggs on each of the slices of bread. As the name entails, it is the Ipoh version of Roti Goyang; therefore, usually, it will be served with soy sauce and pepper. Unfortunately, due to the time taken to shoot the food, the bread became cold when it was time to dig in. However, one thing that stuck out was the richness of the butter used on the Roti Goyang.
Roti Kahwin Kaya Butter (RM5)
Next up is one of my favourite breakfast meals to chow down, which was the Roti Kahwin Kaya Butter, which is basically toasted bread with kaya and butter sandwiched in between. The owner was friendly enough to let us know that the kaya used in preparation for this meal is a homemade duck egg seri kaya. Sadly, it is the same situation with the Ipoh Roti Goyang where the bread has gone cold. It would definitely be a better experience to crunch down on the toasted bread when it was still hot.
Mee Siam Utara (RM6)
Now that we are settled with the light breakfast meals, we were next served with a plate of Mee Siam Utara, which the owner informed us was cooked according to the North side, where the noodles are drier than usual. In the bowl that the meal was served in comes together a spoonful of sambal, cucumber slices, and a slice of fried egg. Before trying the noodles, I had to give the sambal a try first as I needed to know its spicy level. Surprisingly, the sambal was sweet with a hint of spiciness underneath it all; the Mee Siam Utara was sweet as well!
Beef Kuey Teow Soup (RM15)
The fourth dish served to us was the Beef Kuey Teow Soup, where the cook was very generous with the amount of size of beef that was served in the bowl. Before anything else, I took a sip of the soup as my first dip in the water. I found that the soup is not too sweet and has a slight, calming, peppery taste to it. The kuey teow used for this meal is not the usual kuey teow noodles you’d use, as it is slightly thinner than most, making the noodles soft and easy to chew. Aside from that, the beef was soaked well in the soup, making the experience of consuming this dish flavourful. The Beef Kuey Teow Soup was served with a small bowl of stinging sambal with a hint of lime to it.
Nasi Kerabu Kerutuk Ayam (RM18)
Last but not least is the Nasi Kerabu Kerutuk Ayam. As the name entails, you will get a serving of blue rice which was cooked with butterfly pea flowers to give the rice blue colouring and a pleasant smell. Served together with the blue rice is a slice of Kerutuk Chicken, a few fish crackers, quarter-cut lime, and half-sized hard-boiled eggs. By squeezing the lime on top of the rice, you’ll a flavourful, citrusy aroma as you’re eating the Nasi Kerabu Kerutuk Ayam.
We’re all aware that breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. Upon our recommendation, this restaurant is one of the places where you could dine in and go about your day with energy, especially if you quench your thirst with one of their coffee!
