The heart of great Vietnamese cuisine found in the new Vietnamese home in Kepong!
Just right across the parking lot of the nearby Aeon supermarket in Kepong, there lies the home of the Vietnamese expats who opened up their own convenience stores that carry some of their home land’s unique treats, snacks, and foodstuffs. Seeing this abundance of Vietnamese ingredients, a Wife-and-Husband duo teamed up to open up their own little corner of authentic Vietnamese cuisine in Viet Nomms Café!
Viet Nomms Café can be easily found just right at the doorstep of the Aeon supermarket, easily distinguishable as a modern black building with the logo of a man wearing the traditional bamboo hat. It is when you walk inside that a seamless blend of modern and traditional aesthetics mingle perfectly suddenly attacks your senses, starting with the smell of traditional Vietnamese drip coffee as you walk past the bar and the two murals hand-drawn by friends of the owners.
The menu of Viet Nomms Café is a collection of iconic Vietnamese dishes with the restaurant’s bestselling items and history being right at the forefront. Additionally, the main mural further inside the restaurant also has some of their tantalizing treats stenciled right where you are sitting! Furthermore, the owners are in good graces with the Vietnamese grocery stores nearby, so the food there is truly as authentic as it could be.
The Vietnamese drip coffee is a thick, rich and sweet caffeinated beverage made with coffee grounds imported from Vietnam and using a special coffee drip tool to filter the pure liquid mixture into a pool of condensed and evaporated milk. Enjoyable in both hot and iced versions, but the hot version is a treat to behold when you see the cup fill up to the very top and seeing two separate layers not mixing!
The Vietnamese Spring Rolls are a refreshing appetizer to start with a chewy rice wrap stuffed full with of healthy greens and fresh prawns that is served together with a sweet sauce made in house with local veggies and peanuts.
Up next, the Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwich is a tender grilled marinated pork affair stuffed inside of a bread loaf freshly-baked in-house along with some pickled veggies and coriander, with the insides of the bread being lined with a coating of rich butter and pate.
Finally, the Vietnamese Beef Noodles is a sight to behold. A special beef broth made with beef flank, tripe and tendon simmering for hours with a spicy twist added to it. The noodles are already a treat to enjoy, but you also have the option of adding lime juice and more veggies to enhance the flavors.
If you found yourself in the Kepong area or just finished your shopping for the day and in desperate need of some great Vietnamese food, you know where to look for Viet Nomms Café!
