You’ve never had local cuisine in a great vibe like this in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan!
In a community comprising of a variety of races that live together in unity like no other nation in the world, the one thing that binds us together will have to be the food and its recipes that we share to one another and allowing us the taste of each other’s’ cultures and even adapting them to our own tastes. Traditional and regional Malay cuisine is one of the most unique foods that we can only have here and can be found in every corner. Rumah Makan Perpateh takes this concept to the next level and serves up great local delights in a great vibe that makes you feel like a king!
Rumah Makan Perpateh is an easy palce to find, being a large establishment that takes up its own corner with a signboard that can be viewed from any angle. Just like the outside, the interior of the restaurant is open, clean, modern and warm with marble and wood furniture, and floral imagery all over the walls displayed in arches and lit up by LED strips.
You only need to take one look at the menu to be spoiled for choice on which dish you want to sample, being chock full of Malay faves like Salai, Asam Pedas and more. The drinks are given a great fizzy twist like the refreshing Asam Boi and other herbal drinks mixed with soda water for a crisp layer of taste.
Rumah Makan Perpateh’s signature and bestselling Gulai Daging Salai and Gulai Ayam Kampung Salai both use the same sauce base that is spicy through and through, with the main differences being the meats itself giving the sauce a subtle but distinct taste with the beef being a touch more sweeter and the chicken a bit saltier. The beef version is sliced thinly and is tender whilst the chicken is lean but filled with flavour.
With the seafood options on the menu, there is no shortage of dishes that will make a seafood fan’s day. The Siakap Goreng Berlado Petai may look intimidating with the barramundi that is butterflied and fried covered in a thick layer of their signature chili paste sauce, the first bite of the tender meat is sweet with low levels of spiciness and a squeeze of lime juice enhances the sourness of the dish even more.
Similarly, the Jenakak & Tenggiri Asam Pedas is an asam pedas dish with a tender piece of freshwater fish cooked in its savoury and spicy sauce that give the sweet fish meat a rich, salty and spicy taste that pairs exceptionally well with white rice.
The Udang Sambal Petai is for the discerning shellfish lover with its sweet meat cooked in a spicy sauce and petai to give it a punch of sourness with every bite that will make you keep munching on more.
We’ve had our fair share of some great local Malay dishes in our favourite roadside stall or coffee shop for our lunchtime escapades, but if you are ever in Seremban, make sure you put Rumah Makan Perpateh on your list of things to eat in Negeri Sembilan!
